Mar 10th, 2008 by Frances Lewis
In the last post, Every Time My Heart Beats, we looked at nutrition and how it affects the building blocks your body has to work with. In this article, we are going to look at the actual eating habits from people around the world. Be sure and take a look at the people themselves. I think you will be able to see how the foods they eat directly affects how their bodies look.
This is the Ahmed family of Cairo, Egypt.
Food expenditure for one week is 387.85 Egyptian Pounds or $68.53.
You can see many types of fruits and vegetables. There is rice, breads. and nuts. As for meat, there is relatively a small amount versus the amount of grains, fruit, and vegetables. If you look close you can see the sugar drinks and the wine. There is none of processed food you find in our culture present in this picture. The body style of this family is lean and healthy.
This is the Melander family of Bargteheide, Germany
Food expenditure for one week: 375.39 Euros or $500.07 (notice 30 bottles of bier, and 4 bottles of wine!)
This family has more processed food in their diet. There are fewer green vegetables and fruits in the picture. Notice the variety of types of yogurts and juices. There are nuts, breads, and cheeses. More meat is present in the form of processes and red raw beef. The body type here is a bit stockier and somewhat heavier.
This is the Revis family that lives in North Carolina.
The food expenditure for one week is $341.98.
Here we see the most processed food of any of the families. There are several types of fast food pictures here too. Fast food is usually fat laden with little represented that is good nutrition. There are few fresh vegetables or fruit. You can also see many sugary drinks and desserts.
This is Namgay family of Shingkhey Village, Bhutan.
Food expenditure for one week is 224.93 ngultrum or $5.03.
This family eats many bulky, leafy vegetables. They also eat lots of rice. There is not much meat in their diet. The family body type is lean and healthy.
This is the Aboubakar family of Breidjing Camp, Chad.
Food expenditure for one weekis 685 CFA Francs or $1.23.
There is very little food pictured here… mainly rice and beans. You can see some spices and flavoring in the forefront. Vegetables and fruit are in short supply. The body type of this family is somewhat unhealthy because there is so little fat on their bodies.
This is the Ayme family of Tingo, Ecuador.
Food expenditure for one week is $31.55.
Here you see mostly fresh vegetables, fruit, and various grains. There is very little meat, but there is cheese and milk. The Amye family look happy and healthy!
This is the Manzo family of Sicily, Italy
Food expenditure for one week is 214.36 Euros or $260.11.
There are many selections of breads, vegetables, and fruits. You can see pasta and rice also. There is some processed food and sugary drinks. The family looks healthy, thin, and happy.
This is the Casales family of Cuemavaca, Mexico
Food expenditure for one week is 1,862.78 Mexican Pesos or $189.09.
There is an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables in this families’ diet. But there is also an abundance of sugar! We see eggs, bread, rice and beans, but little meat. This family appears to have more body fat than some of the ones we have looked at.
This is the Sobczynscy family of Konmstancin-Jerioma, Poland.
Food expenditure for one week is 582.48 Zlotys or $151.27.
Here we find many kinds of canned food. There are some fresh vegetables and fruits, but the majority of what they eat is processed. If you look closely, you can notice the candy bars and sugary drinks. There is a variety of breads and rolls. They have eggs, but little meat. But even the dog eats great! They look healthy and happy!
So you can see that a families’ diet can affect their body fat and health.
