The Person Who Knows The Most About What I Want Is Me!
Feb 22nd, 2008 by Frances Lewis
What do you want? Do you want health, happiness, a change of circumstance, a new look, a new attitude, or just change? In most cases a positive change in your health can help bring about all the other changes you want in your life. To make that positive change in your health, most people need to lose weight and become more active.
Take me for instance. There is really nothing extraordinary about me. I am a typical American; middle aged, slightly overweight, and basically happy. But there was one thing I needed and wanted: to feel better and have more energy! Don’t you ever get sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? I was there too. But then suddenly it got serious…. My physician told me that I had borderline hypertension and diabetes. Weight loss and fitness was no longer an option, but a necessity!
Surely there are readers out there that are in this very same boat. There are small changes that you can start now, and add to later, that can make a HUGE difference in your health. One change is to eat less fat in your diet. Another change is to watch your calories. The third important change is exercise (anything to get your body moving). You do not have to go to the gym to get the benefits of exercise. Exercise (physical activity) includes anything that gets you moving, such as walking, dancing, or working in the yard. When you’re physically fit, you have the strength, flexibility, and endurance needed for your daily activities. Being physically active also helps you feel better physically and mentally. Most Americans eat too much fat. In this take-out, fast food culture we find ourselves in, the fat content in prepared food is very high. It is no wonder that our children and indeed we are somewhat unhealthy and overweight. If you doubt this statement, check out the nutritional pamphlets in the various fast food places you go to. There are even lawsuits against some of these companies alleging that they knowingly serve unhealthy food!Caloric intake is also very important to heed. Do you ever find yourself munching on chips or cookies out of boredom, but not with any real hunger? Most of us do. But the calories you are adding to your diet can really add up fast and undermine your best intentions of losing weight. To counteract this cycle, concentrate on what is really going on inside of you. If you are bored, get active. If you are hungry, eat something with fewer calories. If you are angry, think about why you are angry and try to find a solution. If you are sad, find something to be happy about.
The final change you can make is to get active… get your body moving! Do what you like to do, what makes you happy; dance, walk, garden, go to the park and feed the ducks, take the dog around the block, anything that gets you moving. You will feel better and have more energy.
One of my favorite quotes is: Awareness is the first step to positive change. - by Leslie C. Aguilar. It really is true. You first have to know that there is problem to be able to address it. Now that you know the problem and some of the answers, the next step is to take action. The future is in your hands. Go for it! Take care, love yourselves and let me hear from you.
